Cyber risk insurance
Protect the business you’ve worked hard to build
Safeguard against cyber risk with our corporate cyber insurance
As a result of our increasing reliance on computer and data technology, businesses of all sizes are frequently exposed to cyber risk.
A Desjardins Agent can help you choose the cyber security insurance that will best protect your business’s revenue and reputation against the specific cyber risks you may face – including identity theft, data breaches and cyber attacks.
Why are businesses vulnerable to cyber risk?
- Small businesses have limited resources to implement a robust security infrastructure.
- Most companies, especially smaller ones, have no plan for responding to a data breach.
- The information that hackers want—credit card credentials and personally identifiable information—is often less guarded on a small business’ system.
What is cyber risk?
Although the terms “identity theft,” “data breach” and “cyber attack” are often used interchangeably, they are in fact distinct in terms of their definitions, triggers, losses and affected parties.
Who can be affected by cyber risk?
Information that can be compromised or stolen
- Credit/debit account numbers
- Driver’s licence information
- Social insurance numbers
- Email addresses
- Medical and healthcare information
- Other sensitive personal information (e.g., passport numbers)
- Information about employees
Types of cyber risk
Identity theft occurs when a business owner’s private identifying information is used for fraudulent loans or crime. With just a few pieces of your personal information, like your driver’s licence or social insurance number, an identity thief can open credit accounts, secure loans or enter into contracts in your name.
A data breach occurs when data is lost, stolen or accidentally made public.
A cyber attack occurs when someone with malicious intent attacks a computer system or network on purpose.
Attacks on a business’ computers can happen in a variety of ways, including hacking, malware attacks or denial of service attacks.
Certain conditions, limitations and exclusions may apply. The terms and conditions of the coverages described are set out in the insurance policy, which always prevails.
