Selection process for Desjardins Agents
The process for becoming an approved candidate for a Desjardins Agent opportunity takes about 6 to 8 weeks. Once selected for a specific opportunity, the licencing and training process takes about 6 to 9 months.
A screening tool called the Sales and Leadership Career Profile (SLCP) is designed to predict the likelihood of success in a sales production and business leadership career. This questionnaire considers the following about you and your experiences:
- Current situation
- Financial situation
- Recruiting experience
- Work preferences, goals and motivations
- Familiarity with the career
- Business leadership aptitude
You must achieve an acceptable rating on this questionnaire in order to move to the next step in the process.
A "not acceptable" rating requires that the candidate wait 12 months before trying again.
The Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Attributes (KSAO) is an assessment tool designed to identify candidates who possess a key set of knowledge, skills, abilities and other attributes critical to success as a Desjardins Agent.
Your results will be reviewed by a Recruiter and used as a selection tool to determine if you can move forward to the next step. If a decision is made not to move forward, candidates are required to wait 12 months before trying again.
A web-based experience designed to help you better understand the activities and career of a Desjardins Agent through learning modules and videos.
Successful completion of all Career Understanding components allows you to move to the next step in the process.
This step involves standard reviews of your credit report, work history and motor vehicle records to determine your eligibility for meeting employment, provincial and federal licencing and sponsorship requirements.
An acceptable candidate review allows you to move ahead in the process.
Business plan preparation and counselling
You will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge of the Desjardins Agency Model gained from the Career Understanding modules by preparing your own business plan. You will also have the opportunity to be coached on your plan by our Agency Career Track Specialist in preparation for your approval interview.
Desjardins Agent approval interview
Candidates will participate in a panel interview and briefly present key points of their business plan and answer behavioural-based questions. The panel will then make a decision on their approval status.
If approved, you join the Approved Candidate pool for up to 36 months and are eligible for Desjardins Agent career opportunities that may develop during that time.
As part of the Approved Candidate pool, you have access to view all open Agency locations. Once you decide to compete for an open Agent opportunity, you may be invited to an interview.
Please note that depending on the time it takes candidates to move through this process, the candidate review checks may need to be completed again.
Licencing and internship
Once selected for licencing and internship, you become a paid, full-time employee. Licencing occurs at the beginning of the internship, which lasts about six to nine months. Internship includes self-study, classroom training, field development involving hands-on experience with a Desjardins Agent and the opportunity to locate and set up your office.
