Liability coverage

How are you covered in case of an accident?

Liability coverage pays damages due to bodily injury and property damages to others for which you are responsible. If you're sued, it also pays your defence and court costs.

How much coverage do you need?

Every province sets a minimum coverage level. Selecting more than the minimum coverage would increase your cost now but potentially give you more protection in case of an accident.

Accident benefits

How are you covered in case of an accident?

Accident benefits include coverage for expenses you incur when you are injured in an automobile accident. Some of the expenses accident benefits coverage can pay for include medical rehabilitation, lost income, funeral expenses and death benefits.

Do you need this coverage?

Accident benefits coverage is mandatory. Optional benefits are available and can be purchased in addition to basic benefits.

Collision coverage

How are you covered in case of an accident?

Collision coverage will pay for damage to a covered vehicle caused by the following, subject to a deductible:

  • Collision with another vehicle
  • Collision with an object
  • Collision with an animal
  • A vehicle rollover

How high should your deductible be?

Higher deductibles lower your premium but increase the amount you'll have to pay out of your own pocket at the time of a loss. If your vehicle is leased or purchased with financing, you may be required to purchase collision coverage.

Direct compensation property damage

How are you covered in case of an accident that is not entirely your fault?

With direct compensation property damage, you'll be covered for damage to your car in the event of an accident that's not entirely your fault.

Do you need this coverage?

Direct compensation property damage is mandatory.

Comprehensive coverage

How are you covered in case of an accident?

This comprehensive coverage helps pay for loss of or damage to an insured vehicle not caused by a collision or vehicle rollover.

Typically, that's coverage for the following, and it may be subject to a deductible.

  • Fire
  • Wind
  • Hail
  • Flood
  • Vandalism
  • Theft

How high should your deductible be?

Higher deductibles lower your premium but increase the amount you'll have to pay out of your own pocket in case of a loss.

Uninsured automobile coverage

How are you covered in case of an accident?

Uninsured motorist coverage will pay for damages when you are injured in a car accident caused by another person who does not have liability insurance.

Do you need this coverage?

This coverage applies when you are involved in an accident with an uninsured or an unidentified hit-and-run motorist.

This coverage is mandatory.

Coverage for transportation replacement

How are you covered in case of an accident?

If your car is in the shop after a collision, rental reimbursement pays the cost of renting a replacement vehicle so you don't have to interrupt your daily routine. Limits per occurrence may vary by product line.

Should you get this coverage?

If you depend on having a car available, could you afford to pay for a rental car yourself without this auto insurance coverage?

Emergency road service1

How are you covered?

Emergency road service will reimburse you for costs associated with towing, a jump start or other things you need to get on your way. Examples of other items typically covered include repair of a flat tire or locksmith services to get into a covered vehicle if you're locked out.

Should you get this coverage?

Consider how much you could afford to pay out of your own pocket if you were stranded without this auto insurance coverage. This coverage is part of our Trouble-Free Option, it covers up to $50 per occurrence to cover emergency roadside assistance.

1 Emergency road service is not available for commercial vehicles. Only available with the purchase of the Trouble-Free Option
