Hydroplaning can happen when there’s a lot of water on the road. Your tires lose traction because they can’t displace water fast enough, and your car can start to slide uncontrollably. If this happens to you, slowly let your foot off the accelerator and steer straight until you regain proper traction.

It’s tempting to think that cruise control will help you drive safely in adverse weather conditions – but if your vehicle hydroplanes while you’re in cruise control, the car can actually speed up instead of slowing down.
